My friend added me to a group chat about her wedding - but I’m not even invited

‘Nothing comes close to this level of bizarreness for me.’

When is a wedding guest not a wedding guest?

When she’s added to her friend’s group chat about her big day — even though she wasn’t invited to the actual event.

A woman who is friends with the bride has hopped onto Reddit, saying her soon-to-be married friend was “super enthusiastic and a very positive person”, and had announced her engagement all over social media.

But when it came to the wedding, she and some of the bride’s other friends didn’t receive invitations.

The woman said she originally didn’t mind.

She understood everyone had a “different circle of family and friends” when it came to “who they want as part of their day”.

“It was her day, so I just congratulated her and obviously expected to see pictures on social as per usual,” the woman said.

But two or three weeks before the wedding, the woman said about 20-30 of the bride’s friends who weren’t invited were added to a group chat called “(bride’s name) wedding shenanigans”.

“I was a little perplexed as I haven’t been invited, nor had a digital invite been sent, and side chats on why we are in this group were also happening,” the woman said.

The bride said “she loved them all” and wanted them to “get updates about her wedding in the chat such as ‘exclusive pictures of all events,’ since many people asked”.

“The way I laughed at her audacity,” said the friend.

The woman said she stayed in the group chat “for 24 hours, out of courtesy, before quietly exiting”.

“I didn’t want to remain for the drama or the absolutely entitled world view of the bride,” she said.

“Nothing comes close to this level of bizarreness for me.”

The woman’s post garnered more than 1000 comments and people were shocked and quick to side with the friend.

“That’s so awkward! You handled that very well,” said one.

“Omg, this is so tacky,” added another.

“This is so strange and just makes the wedding into some sort of tiered event,” said a third.
