‘Mind blowing’ video reveals what plastic pull tab on cooking oil is really for

Australians have discovered what the plastic pull tabs on cooking oil bottles are really for.

Two Brisbane friends Zach and Steve shared a “mind-blowing” video showing the hidden purpose behind the ring pulls.

Rather than tossing it in the bin, like most people do, simply pull the tab off, flip it upside down and push it back in.

So now when you pour, you can expect a drizzle of oil instead of spilling a huge puddle.

“Don’t you hate it when you‘re pouring oil and it makes a mess everyone?” Zach said.

“Well I do and, trust me, try this hack and you will thank me later.

“Stop throwing out the seal from your oil bottle, instead put it inside the top to control the pour.”

The “game changing” method works because the tab helps control the amount of oil poured out.

The video has been viewed more than 11,000 times, with many confessing they had no idea there was a purpose behind the plastic seals other than keeping the contents of the bottle sealed.

“Can’t believe I did not know this,” one said.

Another was stunned, saying: “Wait… what! Brilliant!”

One wrote: “This is genius!”

Another suggested: “I’ve lived my whole life not knowing this...”

While one added: “Omg how did I not know this.”

Earlier this year, the friends - who launched their own business called Cooking Cards - shared a video showing what they believe was the “right” way to use a colander.

“You’ve been using a colander wrong,” the caption read.

The video shows a demonstration of the “wrong” and “right” methods of draining pasta water in the sink.

Instead of placing the strainer in the sink to pour the pasta and water straight in, like most people do, the home cook used a different technique.

The cook can be seen placing the base of the colander over the top of the pot while holding all four handles together tightly to pour the boiling water out - without losing any pasta.

The perfectly drained pasta remains inside the pot while the empty colander is placed aside.
