The cleaning expert says the mistakes can not only make your house look bad but can also be causing damage.

The first one on Stephens’ list is using “too much mop water”, which she says can “ruin flooring and leaves spots on your tiles”.

To counteract this, she says you need to make sure you wring out the mop well.

Secondly, Stephens warns against using “too much product” when cleaning, as it “makes the floor feel sticky under your shoes”.

Her third tip may come as a surprise to many — she says using Windex on windows is a hard no.

“Instead, soap it up and squeeze it out.”

Vacuum cleaner maintenance also comes under Stephens’ spotlight.

She says people should make sure they clean their vacuum, as “dirty vacuums cause weak suction and then dust comes back into your house lowering air quality, (which is) not so good if you’ve got asthma or allergies.

Lastly, Stephens says “maintaining your vacuum head is a must because not maintaining it will cause scratches in your wooden floorboards”.

“Thank you,” said one, while another said, “Great info.”

Meanwhile, Stephens recently shared the $2 cleaning item she “can’t live without”.

“It’s nothing fancy — it’s just a dish brush,“ she said in a video, which has received more than 138,000 views.

“I fill a little tub with For All and water, and I can scrub so many different surfaces with this, especially anything that has some dirt build-up or any cracks or crevices.

“It gets in there better than a cloth.”

You can buy simple dish brushes from Coles and Woolworths for just $1.75, while at Kmart you can get a 2-in-1 dish brush, with both a brush and a scourer on the end, for $4.
