‘If you notice a pattern... it might be a red flag.’

Ever wondered if there’s a way to predict infidelity in your relationship?

Well, Australian dating coach Louanne Ward has dished on the five surprising signs you or your partner could cheat in the future.

Interestingly, the relationship expert has explained how being exposed to parental infidelity during childhood could affect your adult relationships later in life.

“If one of your parents cheated in the past, you might be more likely to cheat,” she said.

“This ‘generic footprint’ can influence your own behaviour in relationships.

“Witnessing infidelity in childhood can normalise it, making you prone to follow suit.”

Louanne says people with a history of numerous sexual partners, or who enjoy one-night stands, can increase the likelihood of being unfaithful.

“High body count often correlates with a thrill-seeking attitude towards sex, which can undermine long-term commitment,” Louanne said.

The dating expert says “past behaviour” can be a strong indication as to whether a spouse will cheat.

“A history of infidelity is one of the strongest predictors of future infidelity,” she said.

“Individuals who have cheated in previous relationships are more likely to cheat again, suggesting a pattern of behaviour.”

Louanne suggests that partners with “avoidant attachment styles” are also more likely to cheat.

“People with avoidant attachment styles tend to distance themselves emotionally from their partners, making it easier to seek intimacy elsewhere,” she said.

“If you notice a pattern of emotional withdrawal, it might be a red flag.”

Lastly, Louanne says emotional instability can make individuals more “susceptible to infidelity”, particularly if they are prone to “dramatic shifts in mood and behaviour”.

“This instability can weaken the emotional bonds that help maintain fidelity,” she said.
