Three people spoke to police when they arrived at the apartment, but a search of the home revealed more were hiding inside.

Almost a dozen people have been fined after a birthday party was shut down in Melbourne during the city’s Stage 4 coronavirus lockdown.

Police busted the party in an apartment in Southbank just before 6pm on Tuesday after reports of a potential lockdown breach.

Three people spoke to police when they arrived at the apartment but a search of the home revealed eight more people were hiding inside.

Police also found that none of the group of 11 lived at the property, but were there to celebrate a birthday.

The entire group was fined and police are investigating how they all gained entry.

In a separate incident on Tuesday night, two men were fined after being found drinking alcohol in a park at Brimbank.

Over the past 24 hours to Wednesday morning, police issued 140 fines in total.

Of those, 21 were to people who left their home without a mask or face covering, including one woman who refused to wear a mask even after she was given three.
