A bride-to-be has sparked debate for planning to give her guests canned food as ‘wedding favours’.
The woman shared in a Facebook group that she was thinking of giving cans of macaroni and cheese as thank-you gifts to her wedding attendees.
“For wedding favours, did anyone do like a can food thing/Mac ‘n’ cheese?” she began her post, in the “Weddings on a tight budget” Facebook group.

“I know it’s not super healthy but I’m going for fun and out of the box LOL”.
It’s not clear where the bride is from.
But she said she knew canned foods were “cheaper than wedding favours” — around the 58 cent mark versus an average $3.40 per gift.
“I am trying to cut costs and honestly think ribbon plus 100 cans of food would be okay,” she wrote.
“Plus if people don’t take them, I’ve got a stock up (my sleeve).
“Opinions are welcome.”
Her post attracted a lot of attention, with some commenters wondering if the bride was kidding around.
“This is a joke, right?” said one.
“This is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read,” said another.
“It’s giving recession instead of reception,” said a third.
However, some thought it was practical and a clever idea.
“In this day and age, with inflation, and jobs not paying a liveable wage, yeah I’d be cool with this,” agreed one.
“I don’t know, I’d probably be okay leaving with a box of mac ‘n’ cheese versus a dumb monogrammed something I’ll never use again,” said another.
“Honestly this is hilarious, and she should do it just because it’s funny,” said a third.
Others suggested alternative wedding favours.
“Just do candy or mints, order M&Ms or choose Lindt truffles in the wedding colours if you want to get real fancy,” said one.
Another suggested not doing the thank-you gifts at all: “It’s okay to just not have favours.”
A third said: “Actually a better way to do this would be to have a nice card at every table that said something like, ‘We appreciate your presence at our wedding so much’.”
