Bride cops backlash for charging guests ‘ridiculous’ fee to attend her wedding: ‘Beyond tacky’

‘The bride is out of her freaking mind.’

A bride has sparked fury after charging her guests a fee to attend her wedding reception.

The bride’s friend detailed her shock on Reddit after receiving the invitation in the mail.

“One of my closest friends is getting married and charging her guests to attend the wedding,” the friend said.

“I always knew she was cheap, so in some ways I am not surprised.”

The prospective guest said there were three RSVP options: I will attend the wedding (envelope fee: $65); I will only attend the ceremony and I will not be able to attend.

She said the invitation did not specify the reason for the $65 fee.

“After Googling the fee, it says it includes food, music, decorations and the venue, so they literally want their guests to pay for decorations,” she said.

The woman went on to explain that the couple also had a dinner planned the night before the wedding, which guests were expected to also pay for.

The expenses didn’t end there.

“If you want to sleep over at the venue, you need to pay around $100, which applies for the night between the pre-dinner, and the wedding day/night after the wedding, so in total $200,” she said.

“I guess these prices are okay, since nobody is forcing you to attend that dinner and/or sleeping over.

“But if I am invited to a wedding, I shouldn’t have to pay to attend the actual wedding?!”

The woman said that, on top of this, the couple had a page where guests could choose to contribute money to a gift.

“It says, ‘gifts are not needed but welcome’ — but who would pay for a gift after they have to pay to attend the wedding?” she said.

The woman said if a guest were to attend every single thing, and contribute to a gift, “it would cost a guest at least $300”.

She said if you also had to buy an outfit, the cost would go up to about $400.

The wedding guest said the worst part was, she knew the couple had money.

“My friend inherited a lot of money from her grandma in advance,” she said.

“They own a house, her fiancé is an engineer, they have a boat and are also currently renovating their house.

“I suspect they can afford both the renovation and the wedding; they are just trying to play it safe.

“She also told me her goal is to be rich.”

The woman said she was sad because she and the bride had been friends for 12 years — but she would only be able to attend the ceremony, because she “absolutely refuses to pay”.

People in the comments were quick to side with the guest, calling the bride, “tasteless and tacky”.

“I would send my regrets and my congratulations and that’s it. The bride is out of her freaking mind,” agreed one.

“Just decline. Say you’re busy that day. You won’t be the only one,” added another.

“RSVP to miss the whole thing and send her an etiquette book as a wedding gift,” suggested a third.
