AFL stars recreate the iconic duck cake from Women’s Weekly: ‘Straight out of a horror movie’

‘Thank God, they don’t play footy, the way they bake.’

AFL stars from the Sydney Swans may have talents on the field, but this is definitely not the case when it comes to cake decorating.

To celebrate the Sydney Swans 150th birthday, players attempted to recreate the Australian Women’s Weekly iconic ‘Duck cake.’

The team posted a now viral video of their efforts to the Swans’ official Instagram page and said the famous duck cake was “as close to a swan as we could get”.

The Swans posted the video alongside the caption: “It’s all about effort, right? Sorry”, and tagged Australian Women’s Weekly magazine.

However, the duck cakes definitely didn’t mirror the iconic creation from Australian Women’s Weekly and instead looked more like sloppy disasters.

The team had TV host and cook, Courtney Roulston, judge the cake decorating competition.

Whilst Will Hayward made an attempt at the ‘duck cake,’ it was Lucy Mcevoy who took out first place for her recreation of the Women’s Weekly cult favourite cake.

The video received more than 240,000 views and people in the comments shared their thoughts.

“Straight out of a horror movie,” said one.

“Thank God they don’t play footy, the way they bake,” said a third.

“I hope they tasted better than they looked,” added another.

Even Australian Women’s Weekly weighed in on the cake baking, saying “close enough.” and suggested they might have to add a ‘swan cake’ to their next cookbook.

“Maybe a swan cake is the next addition to the classic birthday cake book,” they posted.
