When it comes to camping gear, there really isn’t anything my partner and I haven’t roadtested.
We’ve got a garage full of portable water tanks, a shower that can attach to the side of our car, surfboards and SUPs for campsites surrounded by water and even, most recently, a lightweight rooftop tent.
While there is only so much our generously sized Toyota Rav4 can house we push it to the limit everytime we hit the road, which most recently involved a trip to Bonny Hills on NSW’s northern coast.

But this time we had a new piece of gear to test out that we were most excited by: The world’s most portable pizza oven.
Gozney has released its ultra sophisticated Tread model, which is described as “hyper-portable, ultra-rugged, lightweight and adventure ready”.
This pizza oven — which can really make all manner of dishes within it — is the lightest model on sale today, so it’s easy to place in the back of your car, alongside a gas bottle, and hit the road.
“Tread reaches 500°C in less than 15 minutes and pairs seamlessly with the Venture Stand and full accessory system to let you create a pop-up outdoor kitchen anywhere,” the website read.
The stand it refers to looks like something that should be attached to a telescope and perfectly mounts the pizza oven so you can be eye-level with your dish no matter where you’re cooking from.
It takes a little bit of adjusting on an uneven surface to get it perfectly aligned but once you get there you’ll be ready to work some pizza magic.
Then it’s just a matter of flicking a switch to ignite the gas and attaching the bottle itself. That’s it. Set up took us two minutes flat.
We actually brought a camping table with us but if you didn’t happen to have something to prepare your pizza or meal on, the Tread has a handy roof rack ancillary that cleverly transforms the top of the oven into a convenient prep station to ensure you’re ready to roam.
With views overlooking Rainbow Beach in Bonny Hills and a balmy 26 degree temperature at 7pm, we actually started attracting a fair bit of attention in the campground.
“Wow, look at that! What does it do?” Came the calls from excited outdoorsman who were brought over thanks to the “delicious-smelling machine”.
We explained that Gozney’s Tread was a world-first and they were gobsmacked.
From a distance they thought I’d set up a giant camera.
On March 11, when the Tread officially drops online, customers will be able to get a broad range of accessories alongside the oven, for $899.
It will come with the 13.5 kilogram Tread itself, a 1.2 metre gas hose and regulator, a burner guard, stone adjustment tool, torx wrench and digital manual.
But you’ll have to act fast, if I know anything about a Gozney product it’s that they don’t stay stocked online for very long.
Anticipation on Instagram has been mounting since Gozney broke the news about its latest innovative oven on February 4.
“Ok suddenly I want to go camping and have pizza,” one prospective customer wrote.
“This deserves a Nobel Peace Prize,” said another.
A third added: “This is AMAZING! Top of our list when it’s released”.
