As a loyal Apple Airpod owner, I have been eager to see how a different style of headphones would compare — especially one that’s quickly gaining popularity with Aussies.

After hearing about the hype around Shokz, I eager to try and test a pair of the best-selling OpenFit Air ($159), a bluetooth compatible set that sits comfortable around the outside of the ear as opposed to traditional in-ear headphones.

More affordable than other models on the market — they are currently down from $199 to $159 at Amazon Australia, with thousands of rave reviews and over 100 orders placed this month alone.

One of the biggest selling points? ‘Staying plugged’. Unlike noise-cancelling models, the OpenFit Air allows you to stay aware of your surroundings, making them perfect for outdoor exercise.

But that’s not to say they are exclusively for athletes or gym-goers, I’ve discovered they are ideal for those working in an office, commuting and taking phone calls.

Comfort-wise, the OpenFit Air feel weightless and secure, one shopper commented “so comfortable it’s easy to forget you’re wearing them.” I agree.

Home to open-ear designs, Shokz’s headphone range is all about comfort for safe and secure listening experiences, and easily loops around the lobes thanks to the silicone material and earhook design.

But what I love most is the instant pairing to my phone (or any bluetooth device) so I can immediately continue with my playlist or podcast when on the move or writing at my desk.

The OpenFit Air has 28 hours of playtime, and just 10 minutes of charging that give you an extra two hours of listening time. So if you’re like me and forget to recharge overnight — it’s got you covered.

Waterproof against sweating and splashing, Shokz also offers a customisable listening experience via the app, where you can alter settings like the bass, treble and more.

Similar to other models on the market, you can pause, play and accept calls on the earpods, great for going hands-free when your phone is out of reach.

Thanks to the incredible Smart mic tech, the microphone is crystal clear, particularly handy for those who take a lot of calls (or family facetimes like me).

Rave reviews

Shoppers who have got their hands on a pair of Shokz OpenFit have given rated the headphones five-stars.

“As someone who values both comfort and high-quality audio, these earbuds have exceeded all my expectations. The open-ear design is revolutionary – I can enjoy my favorite music and podcasts while staying fully aware of my surroundings. This is perfect for walks, runs, or even just working in a busy environment,” one shopper commented.

Total fan of these. Amazing sound which you can adjust if you need (via app). No saw ears, no slipping and sliding, easy to control via app or tap. One can sweat heaps without damaging the pods,” another added.

“These Shokz ones tick every box for me. Perfect to hear podcasts, music with great base, and they are fabulous when on the phone. They seamlessly synch every time and love that I can dual synch on my iPad as well,” a third wrote.
