Beauty conglomerate ghd has always been at the forefront of hair technology, with many of its loyal customers able to recall the first straightener or curling iron they bought from the brand decades before.

The team broke bounderies with the release of the Duet Styler in 2023, which is almost equivalent to being able to straighten your hair without any damage while it’s still wet.

But if you’d prefer to have a wet-to-dry styling tool that can provide ample volume at the root and give the impression of a 90s bouncy blowdry, ghd has heard your call and listened.

The ghd duet blowdry ($595) is the first two in one hair dryer brush that effortlessly transforms wet hair into a luxuriously smooth, voluminous blow dry finish with no heat damage, three times more volume, no frizz and 50 per cent more shine.

I managed to get my hands on the product before its July 10th release date to test it out in the confines of my own home, deciding to trial it right after a regular wash day so I could run through a full routine.

At first the hard “bristles” on the head of the brush baffled me, it’s not like a regular round brush at all.

But I quickly learned that it’s best to move in three stages to get the most out of the brush.

Firstly, once turned on, simply use it to brush down the hair shaft as a drying mechanism so it’s no longer sopping wet. You probably want it it be about 80 per cent dry.

Then, pulling your hair apart into sections, you want to take one part and feed it into the round brush, pulling up as you move from root to tip to create volume and that blowout effect.

Once your hair is fully dry you can do more by way of styling it and creating effortless curls too.

I made the mistake of failing to section my hair the first time I tried it and simply brushed down, which didn’t give me any volume at the root.

I was astonished by how easily the one tool, used correctly, changed the outcome of my weekly blow dry.

While it’s a heft investment from the outset, it’s important to know that it’s doing the work of two tools, so you’ll no longer need a hair dryer or a blow drying brush.

The tool uses Heat-Air Xchange Technology — a pioneering aerodynamic system that harnesses airflow to actively heat the barrel and snag-free bristles creating salon-worthy blow dries at home, on all hair types, with absolutely no heat damage and with 40 per cent less energy consumption than a hair dryer and a brush.
