I’m just about to set off on a camping trip this weekend, as I try to do every few months while the weather isn’t scorching hot.
Over the course of my life I’ve accumulated quite a bit of camping gear with rechargeable air pumps for a blow up bed, various types of lights including head torches, a Dometic esky, a fan and even designated camping-only plates.
But one of the best purchases I’ve made in pursuit of being an outdoorsy type is the tent I use.

It’s the Coleman Instant Up variety for four people, so it’s wide enough to fit a large double blow up bed and all of your clothes inside, just in case the weather turns sour overnight and you don’t feel like running to get something from the car.
Amazon has just popped an epic deal on its website for the final weekend of Black Friday discounting the eight-man Instant Up Tent by 50 per cent.
So what is usually $449.99 is now $329.99.
In terms of longevity I’ve taken my Coleman tent in blistering storms, harrowing winds, scorching sun and everything in between and it has held up with not a single problem.
Of course, it’s not really recommended for extreme weather — it’s an instant tent after all — but I haven’t found there to be any issues when the weather turns.
And at 50 per cent off it’s a no brainer.
Logistically the tent is 4.1m x 2.35m with a 1.9m centre height plus mesh windows and an awning and is built to last with a double-thick fabric that stands up to all of the elements.
Welded corners and inverted seams keep water from getting in if there is a drizzle and it can be put up in less than five minutes with the built-in frame.
And I’m not the only one singing its praises.
“Easy to put together, sturdy and durable. Only taken out once but so far so good. Very happy,” one woman wrote on Amazon.
“Great price and the tent was suited to our little family of three. It was reasonably easy to put up and take down and well made,” said another.
A third added: “The tent was quite comfortable for two people. We had a Queen sized blow up mattress in there, with enough room for the both of us”.
