Back in 2022 I, like so many others, ordered a dehumidifier when Sydney went through weeks of torrential rain and flooding.
I blame my dated apartment for the lack of light and how damp it felt during the constant rainy weather- despite being inside.
But just before Christmas my dehumidifier (a 10L that cost over $500) decided to give up on me.

I hadn’t realised just how much I had relied on it, far more than just preventing mold, it had become my go-to for drying clothes, reducing allergens and generally making every room feel less humid and sticky.
After loosing my trusted device, I jumped at the chance to try a much more affordable option from Kogan, the SmarterHome™ 7L Smart Desiccant Dehumidifier which retails for just $189 for Kogan First members or $199 for non-members.
Able to remove up to 7L of moisture in the air, I was very keen to put it this smaller, but just as mighty dehumidifier to the test.
Home to many ‘dupes’ for across homewares and electronics, I had high expectations for the Kogan dehumidifier- and it definitely didn’t disappoint.
On the day that it arrived (speedy delivery may I add) I popped it straight into the bathroom where I knew it would suck up the most of the moisture. Within an hour, my damp towels were completely dry and the room felt a lot less sticky and humid.
Like most dehumidifiers, the SmarterHome 7L Smart Desiccant Dehumidifier has an automated tip-over shut-off, so you can rest assured the water will never overflow or leak.
But what I loved the most about the Kogan device is that I can control the settings using the free SmarterHome app which allows me to set a timer for up to 8 hours.
With low, medium and high power settings plus a 90 degree adjustable wind outlet, the Kogan dehumidifier is easily adjustable to suit all needs.
I did notice that it seems louder than my previous model, but since it is placed in rooms that are not in use, it’s no issue at all.
It’s been a few weeks of trying and testing Kogan’s affordable dehumidifier, and I can understand why the SmarterHome 7L Smart Desiccant Dehumidifier has so many five-star reviews.
