When Ash Billqvist gave birth to her daughter, she was keen to find classic and beautiful baby items for her little bundle.

With so many fast-fashion items out there, though, it was surprisingly hard, and it led to the birth of Ash’s second “baby”; her Heirloom Cashmere Australia business.

Launched in 2013 from her home in Melbourne, Ash wanted to bring back a nursery classic and provide new families with beautiful cashmere baby blankets.

The timeless and classic blankets are of keepsake quality with the idea being they can be handed down to babies for generations.

They’re made with 100 per cent cashmere, a natural and renewable resource.

The blanket is also breathable, naturally hypoallergenic and moisture wicking so it’s perfect for a baby’s delicate skin.

Ash’s blankets are available in a range of colours and designs with customers of each coming back to pour praise on the quality of them.

“A certain heirloom!” said one.

“This is a beautiful baby blanket, so soft and the snow white colour is just perfect. I purchased it for my God son’s baby. I will definitely be purchasing more as gifts.”

“Exceptional quality,” said another. “The cashmere cable knit baby blanket is of remarkable quality.”

Reviewers are also happy with how well the cashmere washes.

It’s advised to hand wash the fabric - and the reports are that it comes up well.

“Very soft and lovely blanket. Well priced for cashmere. Washed really well,” said one review.

After 10 years and thousands of baby blankets now gracing nurseries across Australia, Heirloom Cashmere has branched out into luxurious babywear.

Items include beanies, booties and bonnets as well as cardigans and onesies.

Each style brings classic features such as cable knit, Peter Pan collars, mother-of-pearl buttons or an embroidered logo.

“Most of the styles we have now are the same as 10 years ago, and will be the same for the next 10 years and more. An heirloom as it is meant to be,” Ash says.
